This one-night-only production features plays adapted from and inspired by horror and mystery radio dramas of the 1930s and 1940s:

  • Shelter from the storm turns gruesome for two ghost hunters in 1937’s “He Only Lives at Night.”
  • An irate customer regrets spying on the night shift in “Midnight Call” by Kevin David Anderson.
  • A heroic gumshoe faces subterranean dangers while eluding a killer gorilla in “The Adventures of Dirk Diamond, Private Eye” by Dave Ufford.
  • The ugliest woman in the world travels a dark and wicked path to be beautiful again in 1944’s “The Monster in the Mirror.”

“This is the sixth old-time radio show we have presented,” says Jim O’Leary, artistic director of One Night Stand Theater. “Doctor Crypt is a new addition to our format: a weird and outlandish radio horror host with a knack for gallows humor. We look forward to staging these plays in the style of old-time radio programs, complete with homemade sound effects and bogus commercial sponsors.”
