Event Series Event Series: Antiques

As quoted by the publisher, this play is a “deep character study of hope and redemption which examines the human condition and how we often, knowingly or unwittingly, touch others’ lives — both in this world and beyond”.

Intuitive Elaine has long felt strong connections to some of the items she sells in her small antique store. Some friends feel those connections, too, as does her nephew Carl, whose gift comes through in the thoughtful stories he writes about certain antique items from different bygone eras.

But those connections run deeper than the human world will ever know. Many items in the antique shop carry with them a sort of spirit. No, this isn’t a ghost story, but these guests, who only come out after hours — a housekeeper, an English colonel, a gentleman, a Civil War soldier, a mother, and a child — seek closure. They want to move on, but they can’t. That is, not until their personal item in the antique store is purchased… yet there’s more to it than that. As they tell their stories and interact with each other, these guests help each other learn to accept the heartache, trauma, and loss they’ve each experienced so they can truly move on. Similarly, the employees of the shop share a parallel story as they help each other and their customers in far more ways than meet the eye.
