(Press release)
March 9, 2023- Arvada CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities today announced the lineup of their 2023-2024 Theatre Season.
“For the first time in many years,” says Arvada Center President and CEO Philip Sneed, “we’re producing a play on our Main Stage, the hilarious comedy, Noises Off – probably the funniest play ever written! And for the first time ever, we are producing a musical in our Black Box Theatre, Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 – a newer musical that ran on Broadway for over a year, starring Josh Groban. After many years of producing only musicals in our larger theatre, and only plays in the Black Box, it seemed like it was time to mix things up. ”
The season kicks off with Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, the inspiring true story of King’s life, songwriting process, and rise to stardom. Then in the Black Box Theatre, The Laramie Project will tell a profound true story that examines the depth of human hatred and the heights of compassion and love 25 years after Matthew Shepard’s passing. For our holiday musical, audiences will delight with a whimsical, contemporary take on a Broadway fairy tale classic, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
As the new year begins, electropop tunes meet a scandalous slice of War and Peace in the Regional Premiere of musical extravaganza Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812. Audiences will find themselves immersed as the Black Box Theatre turns into a Russian cabaret, complete with some seating at cabaret tables right on the stage. The season draws to a close with Noises Off, a relentless high-energy farce with a giant revolving set that gives audiences a voyeuristic view into what goes on backstage during a flop of a play.
