(Press release)
After working closely with the City of Aurora and their amazing team, Vintage Theatre signed the final documents to purchase the building at 1468 Dayton as their forever home, ensuring that their space will house theatrical performances in the Aurora Cultural Arts District for the next 20 years.
The Vintage team extends special thanks to Craig Bond, who started the process of buying the property from the City of Aurora in 2017 and the Board of Directors who have supported the project from the beginning.
Jeffrey Nickelson converted an auto mechanic store into a theatre space for Shadow Theatre Company opening the space with Dinah Was in April 2008. He built a piece of the Berlin wall into the column of the lobby to represent the unity of community and his desire to produce “theatre from the heart of the human condition.”
When Vintage Theatre moved into the space in 2012, it was important to preserve his legacy and the main stage is still named for him. Vintage Theatre opened their first show in the space on April 27, 2012.
Artistic Director Bernie Cardell and Executive Director Margaret Norwood had this to say about the finalization of the purchase: “We are so grateful to everyone who has made this possible. As we prepare to announce our 23rd season, it is exciting to reflect on our journey as a company and the amazing support we have had from our patrons and our community over the years. The Vintage family continues to grow and we are excited about our future. We are looking forward to bringing theatre that is fun and meaningful to all of us for many years to come!”
The purchase of the property coincides with launching a capital campaign to raise $1M. Audiences can learn more about the current season and donate to the nonprofit by visiting https://www.vintagetheatre.org.
