Upcoming season includes ‘Our Town’ and ‘The Book Club Play’
(Press release)
December 2, 2022 – Arvada, CO – The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities today announced the members of their 2022-2023 Black Box Repertory Company. In its sixth season, the Black Box Repertory Theatre’s season starts with American classic Thornton Wilder’s Our Town (February 24 – May 21) followed by a hilarious take on social dynamics, The Book Club Play by Karen Zacarías (March 17 – May 18).
Conceived as an opportunity to celebrate the unique nature of repertory theatre, the Arvada Center’s Black Box Repertory Theatre has received acclaim from critics and audiences since its inception in 2017. The Arvada Center’s Black Box Theatre provides an intimate setting that allows the audience to witness actors close-up as they transform from one role to the next.
With past titles including literary icons such as The Diary of Anne Frank, Agatha Christie’s Murder on the Orient Express, and Waiting For Godot, the 2023 season continues in that tradition. Alongside great literary classics, the company members of the 2023 Black Box Repertory season strike a balance between veteran actors and up-and-coming talent.
“This rep season really focuses on literature. In Our Town, we have a classic that so many may have read in high school, and The Book Club Play is filled with references from books that may be on your nightstand right now,” said Lynne Collins. “With a cast of both familiar and new faces, we want our audiences and everyone involved with the show to have fun.”
Directed by Geoffrey Kent, Thornton Wilder’s Our Town is a deceptively simple story about love, life, and death. The playwright’s prescribed minimal approach and the intimate space of the Arvada Center’s Black Box Theatre combine for an immersive story of deep truths and the value of cherishing life’s passing moments.
In The Book Club Play, a documentary filmmaker focuses on a book club, causing social dynamics to shift while literary references fly. With moments recognizable by anyone who has ever picked up a book, this play, directed by Lynne Collins, will delight people who love books or anyone that wants a good laugh.
