Buntport Theater Company buying its building

Denver’s quirky originalist theatre company launches $2.65 million capital campaign to secure long-term home.

Buntport Theater Company announced it is purchasing its current building at 717 Lipan Street in Denver, more than doubling its square footage and securing the future of one of Colorado’s leading original theater companies after 25 years.

The company has launched a five-year capital campaign to raise $2.65 million for the purchase, renovations and related costs. More than $1.1 million has already been raised.

The expansion will create dedicated rehearsal space, accessible storage, a sewing room, a wood shop and more. Buntport has occupied the north side of the Lipan Street building for more than two decades and moved quickly when the opportunity to purchase the full building arose earlier this year.

“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to expand, as it not only gives us stability and sustainability, but it creates space and opportunities for other creatives,” said Erin Rollman, Buntport Theater Company member. “We remain committed to affordability and accessibility, both in maintaining our pay-what-you-can ticket policy and providing reasonably-priced rehearsal spaces to support many other artists and companies in our community.”

Buntport is currently leasing-to-own the building with a goal to pay it off in five years. The expansion will provide additional storage and rehearsal space for Buntport and other theater companies. Long-term plans include artist housing for visiting creatives.

The company’s five members are running the capital campaign themselves to keep administrative costs minimal. Consistent with its history as a community space hosting theater, film, visual art, dance, meetings, workshops and events, Buntport plans to keep rental rates low to make producing work accessible to all.
