Debut Theatre Company presents: Anne of Green Gables
Meet Anne Shirley, a talkative young orphan looking for a home to call her own. Accidentally adopted by the Cuthberts to work on their farm, Green Gables, they have no need for a girl and plan to send her back. However, she makes up for her lack of manners and hot temper with a broad imagination, a huge capacity to love, and a joyful spirit that is impossible for the Cuthberts, and the town, to resist. With a talent for trouble, she’s a handful for her new family and friends, but she never makes the same mistake twice!
From wearing a crown of flowers at church to breaking her slate over Gilbert Blythe’s head, every day is filled with learning for Anne. Her arrival in the town of Avonlea is unexpected by all, but she proves to everyone that she is worthy as a friend and a daughter. Anne saves a young girl from sickness, dyes her hair green, and unintentionally intoxicates her best friend! Through it all, with the handsome Gilbert as her academic rival, she strives to be the best she can. But who will win the Avery Scholarship? Will her overactive imagination have her sent back to the orphanage?
In Debut Theatre Company’s 34th year, this show is brought to life by a cast of 18 young people, ages 13-18. The Debut Players work hard on all aspects of the show, from technical challenges such as lighting, costumes, and props to acting, creating lovable characters for the whole family to enjoy.
