Martine Out of Time

Martine Small, a force of nature plagued by big thoughts in a little town, feels stuck on her Grandmother’s chicken farm until one of the town leaders, the organizer of the annual Egg Festival falls off the town’s giant egg, and Martine seizes the chance to direct Winlock, Washington’s 1909 EGG DAYS pageant. It’s easy to bamboozle the town boosters, she rather enjoys shocking her mother’s posh friends and doesn’t really mind terrorizing her tableau actors who are more interested in this year’s Easter bonnets than in rehearsing their play, but having to fly against her grandmother’s brood of unruly chickens may be the one obstacle tripping her up on her epic quest. MARTINE OUT OF TIME is a coming of age story that takes place against a backdrop of the early struggles for women’s suffrage and the joys and limitations of small town life in the first decade of the 20 th century.
