Buntport Theater Company is a collaborative ensemble theater company in Denver creating original works and adaptations without designated writers, directors or designers. Founded in 1998 by seven Colorado College graduates, the company operates from a converted warehouse black box theater in Denver's Santa Fe Arts District.
The five-member ensemble works collaboratively on all aspects of production, from writing and directing to performing, technical work and administration. Since 2000, Buntport has staged over 50 mainstage productions and 100 episodes of live sitcoms including "Magnets on the Fridge" (five seasons) and "Starship Troy" (three seasons). The company also produces tRUNks, a family-friendly live comic book show performed on alternate Saturdays.
Buntport has received over 75 awards including Denver's Mayor Award for Excellence in Arts & Culture in 2010 and multiple Colorado Theatre Guild Henry Awards. The company is recognized for unusual adaptations and quirky original comedies, maintaining a mission to provide high-quality programming while keeping ticket prices affordable.
The flexible black box space features adaptable seating configurations and hosts both Buntport productions and work by other local artists, including art installations, comedy shows, experimental theater and community events. The company's Third Tuesday series presents one-night-only collaborative events featuring local performers throughout the year.
In addition to mainstage productions, Buntport offers educational programming and has presented work at the Denver Art Museum. The company maintains an accessible approach to theater-making, positioning itself on the fringe of traditional theater while emphasizing audience engagement and community access to performing arts in Denver.
