Storyteller Theater

The Storyteller Theater is an intimate, flexible black-box venue in the heart of the Aurora Cultural Arts District, located across the street from the Aurora Fox Arts Center and on the same block as The People’s Building. Opened in July 2026 by founder Lexie Lazear — also artistic director of Shifted Lens Theatre Company — and her husband, technical manager Matthew Rogers, the venue occupies a 1961 building at 9905 E. Colfax Ave. that has previously served as a bank, a chocolate factory, a church and a hair salon.

Designed as an affordable home for small and emerging companies, the 4,653-square-foot space has no permanent stage or seating, allowing artists to reconfigure the room for thrust, in-the-round, immersive or standard proscenium-style productions. Theatrical configurations typically seat between 84 and roughly 110, with a full standing-room capacity of 220. The facility includes a lobby with ticket window and bar, an elevated tech booth, accessible main-floor amenities and downstairs dressing rooms, rehearsal space and a kitchenette.

Shifted Lens Theatre Company serves as the venue’s resident company, with a rotating slate of local troupes presenting plays and musicals throughout the year.
