In the Springs, MAT’S ‘Circus of the Night’ is an evening of pure fun

Elvis antics partner with circus play in the latest rendition of the MAT’s Circus of the Night cabaret — and the results glitter. Running through July 29 at the Millibo Art Theatre south of downtown Colorado Springs, Circus of the Night: Angels for Elvis is an evening of great entertainment. The talented troupe presents a unique and fast-paced show of comedy and originality showcasing its collection of exceptional new and emerging talents.

Co-founder of the Millibo, Jim Jackson, hosts the rowdy show tapping his 45+ years as an internationally renowned clown. Jackson is a natural wit, infusing hilarious bits into the show as he knits the acts together under the Elvis theme.

Isaiah Culling embodies The King

Now in its ninth season, Circus is a Millibo staple with its campy humor and irreverent themes. A simple glitter curtain is the stage backdrop, leaving the performers to shine and dazzle amid the lights, sound and staging that perfectly complement every act.

New faces and old favorites are among the cast. Circus arts veteran Elizabeth Fluharty wows the house with acrobatics, aerial acts and stilts. Beautifully graceful, she literally floats through her performances leaving the audience in awe of body movements that defy physics. Ten-plus years with the MAT has seen her bring humor and subtle play into her often mime-like roles adding depth to her characterizations.

Jamie Rockwell partners with Fluharty in a sensual silks routine that dazzles as the duo climb, spin, tumble and swing in perfect harmony. Rockwell is part of the Kinect Dance Collective now regularly sharing their talents with the MAT. Joining her in a particularly amazing act are Marie-Christine Emond, Allie Petrovich and Lynnea Standley moving their silks in synchrony that transport the audience to a mystic ocean journey.

And what circus would be complete without a juggler? Fortunately, the MAT has harnessed Christopher Keller, a self-described circus freak who graduated from Circus College and has travelled the U.S. performing under the big top as a puppeteer. His hand/eye coordination is epic.

Newcomer Kayla Wimmerle rocks the white jumpsuit as Little Elvis in her debut role with MAT’s Circus. Comical and brimming with confidence, she is the audience favorite when Jackson engages the house in the much-anticipated Elvis impersonator competition. She wins, hands down!

Always on pitch, the MATs’ seasoned vocalist Miriam Roth hits all the high notes and projects incredible stage presence. A regular performer on Springs-area stages, Roth is a recorded vocalist, acting coach and voice teacher. In her nine-year run at the MAT, Roth has expanded her comedic talents as the Circus chanteuse.

And yes, there is a larger-than-life Elvis in the house. Isaiah Culling embodies The King strutting his stuff center stage in his singing debut at the MAT. A regular on local stages, Isaiah has graced serious and comedic roles and is now expanding his repertoire into farce.

An evening at the MAT’s Circus is an evening well spent. Get ready for originality, variety and simply amazing talent. Don’t miss out.
