The 2023 season is themed “Casualties” — a theatrical response to a community affected by disaster
(Press release)
Benchmark Theatre announces the 2023 season featuring three world premiere productions, one regional premiere production and one work of canon. This will be the sixth active season since the company was founded in 2016 and began regular programming in 2017.
The 2023 season is themed “Casualties” with all titles chosen for season selection as a theatrical response to a community affected by disaster.
For many, the events of 2020-2022 are in the rear-view mirror. But for some, the uneasiness of that time has either continued or given way to other horrors: LGBTQ+ violence, ongoing racial violence, the unabashed re-emergence of antisemitism, weekly mass shootings, and the deaths of thousands of innocents as a result of the war in Ukraine.
How do we continue to process what’s left behind in the wake of these atrocities? Has our capacity for empathy been exhausted? How do each of us individually define what it means to be human? Benchmark Theatre’s seventh season “Casualties” explores these questions and more.
