Prospero’s Black Box

Prospero’s Black Box is a solo clown show that explores the absurd connections between Shakespeare’s Prospero and Google’s Geoffrey Hinton as they struggle to stay human in the age of Artificial Intelligence and Virtual Reality.  A Black Box is an algorithm that is so complicated even its creators don’t understand how it works.  PBB had its world premiere in 2023 at the Hydrama Arts Center, Hydra Greece.  It then played at the Ol’Factory Festival of Physical Theatre in Chicago.  In 2024 the show was invited to the Prague Shakespeare Festival and Verona Shakespeare Fringe Fest.  The Lit Moon World Theatre Festival in Santa Barbara invited the show in January of 2025 and in May the show was featured at the AI in the Arts Symposium at Depaul University in Chicago.
