Denver Center production cleans up at annual awards ceremony
The Denver Center Theater Company production of “Oklahoma!” was the big winner at Monday night’s Colorado Theatre Guild Henry Awards ceremony, snagging top honors for Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Direction (Chris Coleman) and Outstanding Ensemble Performance, among others.
But other theatre companies did well also, with the Fine Arts Center Theatre Company at Colorado College walking away with Outstanding Season for a Theatre Company. The FAC’s production of the gun-violence dramedy “Church and State” garnered an Outstanding Production of a Play award as well as the top actor award for Brian Landis Folkins.
Hundreds of Colorado theatre folks turned out for the awards ceremony, held again this year at the Lone Tree Arts Center. The production, directed by Betty Hart and Robert Michael, featured a variety of performances from the past year’s productions as well as presentation of the Theatre Person of the Year to Beki Pineda, an “In Memoriam” video put together by DCPA’s John Moore, and a special award for Excellence in Children’s Theatre presented to Denver Children’s Theatre, which closed its doors last May.
