There’s a boom in performance space around the state – plus, a conversation with the folks at the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition and our weekly Colorado Headliners

In this episode of the OnStage Colorado Podcast, Toni Tresca and I take a look at the growing list of new or reimagined venues around the state. From new tenants at tiny 40 West in Lakewood to multi-million new spaces in Colorado Springs and Grand Junction, we take a look at the newest places to see a show.

We also take a look at this week’s Colorado Headliners — our Top 10 list of the most titillating shows and other events coming up in our oh-so-square state. Which begs the question: How did such a square state get so darn cool?? This week’s Headliners, in no particular order:

  1. Colorado Community Theatre Coalition festival – Aug. 9-11, Evergreen
  2. Dear Jack, Dear Louise – Bailey Theatre at Glen Isle Resort – Aug. 9-18
  3. Improv & Fun – What If Theatre in Lakewood, Aug. 10-31
  4. A Chorus Line – Phamaly, Denver Center Aug. 8-25
  5. After the End – The Catamounts Aug. 10-Sept. 14 at Anythink Huron in Thornton
  6. Empire of Solitude – Flamboyán Theater @ Buntport Theater – Aug. 9-18
  7. 9th Annual Afrik Impact Community Cultural Celebration and Concert –  Arvada Center, Aug. 10
  8. The 48 Hour Film Project – The Bug Theatre, Aug 11 and 23
  9. Catfish Comedy – Aug. 11 at Comedy Works Downtown
  10. The Sin – Blunt Force Drama at Boulder Dairy Center Aug. 15-18

Later in the pod I caught up with Brad Moore and Brian Dowling with the Colorado Community Theatre Coalition, which has its annual festival Aug. 9-11 in Evergreen. It’s an interesting story about an organization that’s all about Colorado theatres sharing their art and knowledge while also going head to head in theatre competition pieces as part of the festival.
