Kate Poling’s adaptation swaps castles and pumpkins for chrome diners and gas pumps in an interactive show for young audiences.

Miners Alley Theatre for Young Audiences opens a 1950s-set adaptation of Cinderella on May 9 in Golden, with performances running through June 13.

Adapted and directed by Kate Poling, the production relocates the fairy tale to a world of chrome diners and gas stations. Ella works at her stepmother’s gas station while hoping to attend the diner dance next door.

MATYA productions are designed for children and families, with cast members greeting audiences before the show and inviting kids to interact with performers and join the action onstage. Performances run under an hour.

“At Miners Alley, we believe theatre should feel magical, personal and accessible from the very first experience,” said Rory Pierce, director of children’s theatre. “This production of Cinderella captures all the fun and imagination families love, while creating the kind of interactive experience that makes kids feel like they’re truly part of the story.”

The cast features Michaela Murray, Maggie Tisdale, Giselle Gonzalez, Sophia Badia and Sam Evins.
