Sunday, March 19, 2023. Denver, CO – Curious Theatre Company announced the launch of the first full season under the leadership of new Artistic Director Jada Suzanne Dixon. The line-up for the 26th season demonstrates Curious’ ongoing commitment to bold, theatrical storytelling and to exploring important social issues and complex human dramas.

“We can’t wait to share these amazing plays with the Denver community,” said Dixon. “This season, which stays true to the ongoing Curious’ commitment summed up in our motto, ‘No Guts, No Story,’ while bringing many new stories and achievements to our stage that our audience has never seen before. I’m so excited for these new plays and collaborations.”

The season begins with the regional premiere of the Tony-nominated and Pulitzer-finalist Broadway hit, The Minutes by Tracy Letts running September 7- October 14. This scathing new comedy about small-town politics and real world power from one of the great writers of American Theatre today has 11 cast members, among the largest in Curious history. In a first for the theatre, Dixon intends to cast the entire show from the Curious ensemble of Artistic Company Members.

In another new turn for Curious, Letters of Suresh brings the words of playwright Rajiv Joseph to the stage, centering the Asian and Asian-American experience. This award-winning, poetic and haunting play, reveals intimate mysteries through a series of letters between strangers, friends, daughters and lovers – many with little in common but a hunger for human connection. Letters runs November 11 – December 9.

In the new year, showing from January 11 – February 10, 2024, Curious continues its commitment to bringing world premieres to Denver. Truth Be Told by William Cameron explores the nature of objective truth and the ways in which we manipulate and distort it to serve our own ends. An achingly human story about mothers who care deeply about their sons as much as they care about the truth.

An exciting collaboration between two of Denver’s long-time theatre companies, Cost of Living by Martyna Majok will feature Phamaly Theatre Company and will be directed by Phamaly’s artistic director Ben Raanan. This Pulitzer prize-winner, fresh off a Broadway run, delves into the chasm between abundance and need and explores the space where bodies–abled and disabled–meet each other. It plays March 14 – April 20, 2024.

The season concludes with the breathtaking Cullud Wattah by Erika Dickerson-Despenza. This time-bending play takes on the Flint Water Crisis and dives deep into the poisonous choices of the outside world, the contamination within, and how we make the best choices for our families’ futures when there are no real, present options. This regional premiere features an intergenerational cast of all Black women joined in song, reckoning and ritual that will be on stage May 16 – June 15, 2024.
