Silverthorne arts center will feature more jazz shows in coming months
In a night brimming with anticipation at the Theatre Silco, the Great Family Jazz ensemble — comprised of four exceptionally talented musicians — took center stage March 23 in Silverthorne. Led by the acclaimed Grammy-nominated trumpeter Shane Endsley, the stage was set for an evening of musical brilliance at Theatre SilCo’s new “Jazz Club.”
In the inaugural installment of the Jazz Music Series at the theatre, the quartet delivered true jazz magic as each member of the quartet demonstrated their exceptional skill on their respective instruments.
The quartet embarked on a captivating journey through the realms of jazz. Playing a mix of jazz classics and new pieces written by each member, the evening featured a delightful range of music. Joining Endsley on trumpet were Dawn Clement on piano and vocals, Dru Heller on drums and Patrick McDevitt on bass. Each musician, all faculty members of the music department at Metropolitan State University of Denver, showcased their remarkable talent, weaving a tapestry of improvisational melodies that captivated the audience throughout the night.
Endsley’s trumpet mastery, celebrated by DownBeat magazine, shone brightly as he led the ensemble with finesse and precision. His exceptional technique and remarkable compositional abilities were on full display, a testament to his versatility and mastery of the instrument, solidifying his status as a sought-after musician in the jazz world and beyond.
Clement exuded a vibrant aura on stage, marked by a delightful presence and a sound that is uniquely her own. Her piece titled, “Forgive Me,” was a highlight of the evening. I also thoroughly enjoyed the piece written by Patrick McDevitt in the show’s second half and couldn’t help but be charmed by his constant smile as he played. Dru Heller stands out as an expressive, authentic and joyful drummer, infusing the evening’s performance with an infectious energy.
Intimate setting
The intimate setting of Theatre SilCo’s Jazz Club provided the perfect backdrop for the quartet’s performance. Under subdued lighting, the audience was enveloped in an atmosphere that allowed the music to take center stage, creating an immersive experience that highlighted the musicians’ artistry. The acoustics, meticulously tuned to perfection, provided a warm and inviting sound that complemented the music seamlessly.
In the heart of Summit County, the Great Family Jazz ensemble delivered an unforgettable performance that showcased the extraordinary talent of all four musicians. Their expertise was evident in every note, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. For lovers of jazz and music enthusiasts alike, this was a night to remember — a testament to the transformative power of talent and passion.
I’m looking forward to more of the shows upcoming at the Club!
