(Press release)
DENVER, Colo., October 15, 2024 – After a 2024 festival that brought sellout crowds, rave reviews, and glowing audience feedback, Central City Opera is proud to announce their 2025 Summer Festival lineup. Central City Opera’s 93rd season will continue Colorado’s longest-running performing arts tradition, from June 28 through August 3 2025. The first festival programmed by newly appointed Artistic Director Alison Moritz features the beloved comedy of Rossini’s Barber of Seville (Il barbiere di Siviglia), the regional premiere of Aleksandra Vrebalov and Deborah Brevoort’s patriotic and heartbreaking opera The Knock, and a Golden-Age Broadway Musical to be announced in January 2025.
The Barber of Seville: Gioachino Rossini’s masterpiece blends romance, intrigue, humor, and some of opera’s most memorable music in it’s highly anticipated return to the Central City Opera stage after 12 years away. From the first downbeat of its famous overture, opera lovers and new audiences alike will be swept away to a mapcap comedy in the streets of 17th-century Spain.
The Knock: This patriotic opera of heartache and hope tells the story of military wives awaiting news of their husbands deployed in Fallujah during the Iraq war. Years of interviews with military spouses performed by librettist Deborah Brevoort, and the moving score by Aleksandra Vrebalov, bring to life the sacrifices and bravery of those far from the lines of combat. We are excited to share this regional premiere after its sold-out run at Cincinnati Opera.
Broadway Musical to be Announced: Continuing a proud tradition of producing classical musical theatre for Colorado audiences, Central City Opera will announce this title in January after it completes a limited run on Broadway and a touring stop in Los Angeles.
New This Year: In addition to mainstage productions and Central City Opera’s traditional Festival Extras, audiences can enjoy CCO in Concert: Opera’s Greatest Hits, a special one-night-only concert with festival singers and the CCO Orchestra, on July 25. Also new this year is Backstage Magic, an opportunity for audiences to watch and learn from IATSE Local 7 crew as they transform the stage and set between performances on two-show Saturdays.
Central City Opera’s 93rd summer festival is a continuation of Colorado’s longest-running artistic tradition, featuring five weeks of classical music’s biggest talents. Subscription renewals are available now, and new subscribers can join an actively managed waitlist. Subscriptions for all three shows are priced from $72. Single tickets will go on sale in April 2025, and start at $30.
