17th season for Golden theatre kicks off Jan. 22

Miners Alley Playhouse has announced its 2021 Main Stage Season and the 2021 Children’s Theatre Season. The season will be the 17th main stage season at Miners Alley Playhouse in Golden and the 7th season for Miners Alley Children’s Theatre.

“Our 2021 Season has emerged as a back to basics celebration of Colorado playwrights and talent,” said Len Matheo, Executive and Artistic Director. “We are committed to employing local talent and getting arts workers back to work!”

At the annual fundraiser on Friday, October 30 Len reassured patrons that the theatre will offer the safest and most professional theatre experience, whether that is in person or via streaming options or both.

The 2021 Main Stage season includes the following shows:

Zen & The Art of Profit
By Luke Sorge Directed by Len Matheo
WORLD PREMIERE
January 22nd – February 28th, 2021

Exact dates and showtimes TBD

After an embarrassing leak of his professional emails, hot-shot finance-sector CEO Charles Worthing (CW) suffers a severe panic attack. The leak exposed him as a greedy, hedonistic, ego-maniac with troubling anger issues. Now he’s facing termination from his company and divorce from his celebrity wife. Desperate to rehab his image and “become a better person,” he hires a Spiritual Counselor named Jade Rae, a purported meditation expert. As their personal and professional lives become more entangled, CW is confronted with the question at the very heart of his beloved capitalism: do the ends justify the means?

The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged)

By Adam Long, Daniel Singer, and Jess Winfield
Directed by Aaron Vega
March 19th – April 25th, 2021
Exact dates and showtimes TBD

All 37 plays in 97 minutes! Three madcap men in tights weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s comedies, histories, and tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter. An irreverent, fast-paced romp through the Bard’s plays, THE COMPLETE WORKS OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE (ABRIDGED) was London’s longest-running comedy.

The Treasurer
By Max Posner
Directed by John Moore
REGIONAL PREMIER
May 14th – June 20th, 2021
Exact dates and showtimes TBD

Ida Armstrong is broke, lonely, and fading fast. And she’s spending all of her children’s money, forcing her son to assume the unwanted role of The Treasurer: an arrangement that becomes untenable the more he questions his devotion to her. In this darkly funny, sharply intimate portrait, Max Posner chronicles the strained ties between a son and his aging mother, and the hell of a guilty conscience.

Before You Go
By John Ashton, Directed by John Ashton
World Premiere
July 9th – August 15th, 2021
Exact dates and showtimes TBD

“The play, inspired by his own family, brings three adult siblings to the home of their dying mother as they explore well-trod terrain through a very untrod lens: Actual, unapologetic tenderness. Ashton’s siblings genuinely love each other, and their dying mom is not a monster, which makes this unexpected comedy something akin to an anti-August: Osage County.” — John Moore.

The Crucible
By Arthur Miller, Directed by Len Matheo
September 10th – October 17th, 2021
Exact dates and showtimes TBD

Set during the Salem witch trials of the 1690s, The Crucible is a timeless parable of morality, a scorching indictment of intolerance, and a central work in the canon of American drama.

The Holiday show for the 2021 season is still to be announced, but will run November 26, 2021 through December 26, 2021. Stay tuned for a separate special announcement!
